We trace and locate missing owners of shares, particularly those whose shares have either already been transferred to the IEPF Authority or those whose shares and dividends are in the process of getting transferred to the IEPF Authority owing to failure to locate the owners of such shares and dividends.
Our records, based on our in-house research show that you may be the owner of an asset that has been classified as, or is in the process of being so classified as, an unclaimed asset. You may or may not be aware of this. Usually, this could be due to one of the many factors that may have contributed to your asset being classified as unclaimed, such as an incorrect mailing address with the Postal Service or inactivity on your account, or a change of address or demise of the original owner of the asset.
There are several ways in which contact with an owner of an asset may be lost. Moreover, legal heirs may have not received proper notification of their inheritance. There could have been a change of address. It is possible that an owner’s name was changed because of a marriage or divorce. Regardless of the reason, our mission is to help rightful owners claim the assets back.
When it comes to filing claims to recover unclaimed shares and dividends, time is of the essence and plays a crucial role in the shares and dividends being declared as unclaimed in the first place. If the unclaimed shares and dividends are presently being held by the respective companies and the owner doesn’t apply for its release within a specified time, the unclaimed shares and dividend pass on to the IEPF, which mandates a separate reclaim process. If the application for the release is done within the prescribed timeframe, the holder of the unclaimed shares or dividends must release them to the rightful owner.
We do not commit to a timeframe. This is because we do not want to build your hopes or invite undue pressure on ourselves by committing to something that is not always in our control. It all depends on the documentation you already have and those that need to be put in place following due process. The process typically takes somewhere between 8 to 10 weeks depending on who is currently holding the unclaimed shares and dividends. If the companies or the IEPF cause a delay from their end, the process can far longer.
Yes. In the interest of transparency, we have our clients sign an engagement letter, which describes the services we will provide, the fees and expenses to be incurred, our mutual and respective responsibilities, and any other information that is necessary for you to know or for us to represent you. In addition, some documents requested by the agencies holding the unclaimed assets may have to be signed including Limited Powers of Attorney, etc.
